Win it Wednesday: Get A FREE Entry to the Fort2Base Race

Being an official ambassador of the Fort2Base Race has its perks, namely, that I get to give away a free entry!

The Fort2Base Race is a 3- or 10-nautical-mile race that's taking place Sept. 11. That's 3.45 or 11.5 regular miles. It starts at Fort Sheridan and ends at the Great Lakes Naval Base, the home of the United States' only naval bootcamp. This fall is the first race, which will be held on the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
If you want to be part of this inaugural race for FREE, here's your chance.

All you have to do is leave me a comment answering this question:

Why do you want to run the first Fort2Base Race?

I'll use random.org next Wednesday and publish the name of the winner. You'll have one week to contact me to get your free entry!

I already registered! And actually we got a good deal because my husband is in the reserve so it was $50 for both of us to do the 10NM race.

I think it’s always fun to run inaugural events because you get to say, “I’ve done it since they started.” I think it’s pretty neat we get to start and finish on base. I’ve never been on a military base and the fact it’s on September 11th makes it that more special. I also want to run this race because only 11.5 miles AND you get a medal!!

Why do I want to do this? To prove to myself I can. In High School I wasn't athletic by any means, but at the age of 31 I joined a gym.. never ran in my life! Pretty soon I was up a mile.. never pushed myself beyond that... This year, I decided to start tallying my mileage, up to 255 from 3/8/11. I gave myself a goal to reach 300 by August15th.. I can do it!!I do it for cardio health, weight loss, and just overall it is a stress reliever. I can and will run this.. Its such a great thing, and does bring back memories of 9/11. My husband and I lived in Kingston, NY about 1 hr from the city, we felt the rumblings when the towers fell, we had friends working down there, our friends family members lost their lives, it was very somber time.. But what better way to remember that is to run, run for me, and run in rememberance of all those who lost their lives!

I am going to participate in this event to honor my father who served in the Korean war. It will be even more special that it is held on 9-11 and on the military base.

Okay, not to screw up your randomization, but I realized that I didn't really give a reason for why I'd wanted to do it. (I deleted my last post to make the randomization easier for you.)

Anyway, I love the idea of the race. My dad was in the navy, my boyfriend was in the army, and my stepbrother was in the air force. Additionally, most of my students are current/former/future military. Especially on Sept. 11, I want to be doing something to honor the military in some small way as my sacrifice can't compare to theirs.

Plus, it's just cool. Not only an inaugural race, but a guaranteed PR at the "nautical 10m" distance!

I want to run in the inaugural Fort to Base to honor the victims and heros of 9-11. The fact that it's the first run makes it extra special. That both locations have a special place in my Chicago born and bread heart only makes it all the more appealing. I hope I get a free entry but if I don't I'm going to be there anyway. I won't miss it!

I'm training for the Detroit Marathon, which I'm running to raise money for the American Cancer Society. My long-distance training partner lives in Evanston, so this will be the only run we actually do together.
